The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) was created in 2011-12 through the merger of various Government Ministries with the NZ Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) – where Verification Services was previously located.
MPI Verification Services employs about 280 staff of whom about 200 are registered Veterinarian Verifiers, alongside about 40 Verifiers with other Science based qualifications. The Professional Verifiers’ Institute covers these positions.
Verification Services verifiers provide an essential and primarily mandated professional service to industry that meets domestic and importing country requirements and makes animal product export trade possible. Our verifiers deliver high quality verification, certification and clearance programmes to a range of animal products industries.
Verifiers therefore facilitate:
- Market access for our primary product exports
- Food safety within New Zealand and
- Containment biosecurity outcomes.
